 YCC Fall Kick-Off Event
Affirmation Arts
Wed., September 17, 7–9 p.m.
Join us for cocktails and a viewing of video works acquired by the YCC at Affirmation Arts' newly renovated space which includes a gallery, studio, and office space on New York's west side. Supporting an up-and-coming arts neighborhood, Affirmation Arts offers temporary exhibition space for curators, galleries, artists, and in-house shows. YCC Members are invited to bring along a guest who is interested in learning more about the YCC.

 Creative Time Tour
Democracy in America: the National Campaign
Park Avenue Armory

Join curator Nato Thompson on a cocktail reception and private tour of Democracy in America. The show, featuring work by 50 artists, traveled across the country to measure artists' relationships with and reactions to the historic roots and practical manifestations of the American democratic tradition. Members are then invited to stay for Creative Time's special performances/speakers (TBA) in the Drill Hall.

Steven Holl Architects welcomes the YCC to their atelier where they will introduce their exciting international projects, including the soon to be completed Linked Hybrid in Beijing. This project, which is 22,000 sm in size, houses 750 apartments, public green space, commercial zones, hotel, cinema, schools and underground parking, and is hailed as “one of the ten coolest eco-friendly buildings in the world—one of the largest geothermal projects on earth."

 Bushwick Studio Visit

Visit the studio of Rashid Johnson, who uses a mixed media approach encompassing steel, mirrors, and shea butter to create work that experiments with its own relationship towards racial themes. Then, meet with Todd DiCiurcio of METDC Studios where you will gain insight into his interpretations of live performances through drawing, and learn how he strives to find truth through artistic technique.

Catherine Opie: American Photographer

Join curator Nat Trotman for a private walkthrough of Catherine Opie: American Photographer. Working in stark and provacative color as well as richly-toned black and white, Catherine Opie's classically composed images seduce the viewer into reconsidering notions of communal, sexual, and cultural identity. Her work adopts such diverse styles as studio portraiture, landscape and urban street photography, making visible the invisible and underscoring the poignant yet unsettling veracity of her subjects.

Join upper level members of the Guggenheim Museum to celebrate the VIP opening of theanyspacewhatever. Ten contemporary artists, who have each adopted the exhibition as an expressive medium within their individual practices, have been invited to collectively formulate a scenario for this group show. For these artists, an exhibition can comprise a film, a novel, a shared meal, a performance, or a social space. See the creative and collaborative energies of these artists manifest within the Guggenheim's Frank Lloyd Wright-designed space.
